Registration FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
We're new to the area, can we register for RHLL?
Children at the
youngest level of the Little League Baseball and Softball program (League Age 4-7) have the ability to register for any Little League program they choose
, without respect to any geography- or school-related eligibility requirements. There are several high-quality, well-run leagues on the Hill to choose from: Rolling Hills Little League, Palos Verdes Little League and Lunada Bay Little League, among a few others.
Eligibility for players Little League Age 8 to 12 is based on residency, school enrollment, or uninterrupted participation since age seven
. In general, if your child attends one of the following schools, he or she will likely be eligible to register in RHLL: Dapplegray, Mira Catalina, Miraleste, Chadwick, Country Day, or MELA.
A new
exemption
for this eligibility requirement for 8-12 year olds players [PLEASE READ]
:
Players who have participated in the league without a break in participation since league age
seven (7), OR the sibling of a player who is an active participant league age (7) or younger OR
the sibling of an active player in the league who has participated in the league without a break in
participation since league age seven (7), are eligible to continue participation in the league
provided they maintain continuous and unbroken participation within the league and regular
season play.
This option only applies to players born on or after September 1, 2017 (Baseball) or
January 1, 2017 (Softball).
How do I take advantage of this eligibility exemption for my 8-12 year old and register both my children to RHLL even though we are not zoned for RHLL?
Take the following steps:
a) Log into your SportsConnect account via our website RHLL.org using the links in the top right of the page.
b) Add your players, if they have not already been set up.
c) Once added, edit both players by clicking the "pen" icon next to their name, and add sibling to the relationship field for each player.
d) Register your younger (Little League age 7 or younger) player first.
e) Upper division (older than 7) players will not be allowed to register if your address or school is out of bounds of RHLL.
f) But once the lower division player is registered, the upper division player will be allowed to register once the sibling information is complete.
If you have any questions, please email the board at
[email protected]
.
Which division should I sign my child up for?
Please refer to the Division Info tab for information on which division your child should register for. In general, you should register your child to the division best suited for their age and skill level.
For more information please refer to the "Division Info" page under "Registration Info" or click
here
.
What if my child is of an age where he or she has more than one division to register for?
If your child has multiple divisions available during registration, please consider the following:
For non-competitive divisions (Tee Ball and Rookie) and 5 year olds, consider registering for Tee Ball if your child has never played baseball before and/or may need an extra year at Tee Ball for development. Otherwise, please consider registering for Rookie, where players will be older and physically more developed.
For competitive divisions (Minor, Intermediate and Major) and AAA, your child will need to participate in player evaluations which will ultimately determine which division he or she plays in, regardless of where there are registered.
For 8 year olds on the cusp between AAA and Minors, consider registering for Minors if you think your child is ready for live kid pitching and more competitive level of baseball. If your child does not get placed on a Minors team as part of our evaluation and draft process, he or she will be placed on a AAA team and you will be refunded the difference in registration fee between Minor and AAA. If your child is registered in AAA but placed on a Minor team based on his or her evaluation, you will be asked to pay the difference in registration fee between AAA and Minor
What if I want my child to play "down" to a less competitive division, or "up" to a more competitive division?
If you want your child to play "down" (e.g. a 10 year old looking to play Minors, or 12 year old looking to play Intermediates), you will need to contact the board at
[email protected]
to request a safety exemption. The Player Development Committee will review these requests and carefully evaluate every player in the competitive divisions to ensure safety and suitability for each division.
If you want your child to play "up" (e.g. a 7-year old looking to play Minors, or 9 year old looking to play Intermediates, etc), the league cannot guarantee that he or she will be placed in the desired division. The evaluation and draft process will ultimately determine which division your child will play.
We are signed up! Now what?
Teams are formed in late January. Your coach will reach out to you shortly after with team information and practice times.
My child tried out last year. Does he/she need to tryout again?
Yes. Tryouts happen each year to allow coaches to evaluate players for drafting purposes.
I have more than one child. Can they play together on the same team?
If they are close in age and are determined to safely able to play in the same division, then provisions will likely be made so that they play on the same teams. Please email the board for these requests.
Can I coach a team?
We are always looking for coaches and volunteers and have great programs in place to get you started! Please indicate that you would like to help out when you register.
Does each player play every game?
Yes. Little League specifies minimum play requirements so that each child gets a chance to experience different infield/outfield positions.
I'm concerned about my child pitching and overuse of his/her arm.
We take pitch counts and arm care seriously at RHLL. Little League has strict limits on
pitch counts
and rest days between games. RHLL's pitch counts and rest days are more conservative and these limits are strictly adhered to.
What is my child's "Little League Age"?
Little League age is determined by the child's actual age on August 31st of that year. Click
HERE
for more information.
